The COVID-19 epidemic could be controlled through correct and shared behaviors. Due to this simple assumption the project committee of an ALI customer (You can refer to the Italian version: https://www.alisrl.it/covid-19-e-sicurezza-comportamentale-i-processi-di-behavior-based-safety-a-tutela-della-salute-dei-lavoratori/ ) had the idea of extending the process of BBS (behavior-based safety) to the safety behaviors required to protect themselves and other workers from the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

The BBS project committee of this company, together with employee representatives has drawn-up a checklist of 10 basic behaviors to protect the company’s workers.

The check-list is mainly based on the Italian standards but there are references to CDC, NIOSH and FCA standards.

The checklist is used, both by observers during routine BBS observations, and by supervisors to provide support to their activities of staff’s surveillance and motivation of the with respect to safety behaviours to the COVID-19 issue.

The reaction of the observed workers, in these early stages, was very positive because they:

• had further evidence of the company’s attention to the COVID-19 issue;
• had an immediate perception of the level of safety of each behavior and if there are areas to improve.

The company can also take immediate actions (e.g. motivational, job repositioning) for those sub-optimal behaviors or areas.

Behaviors related to COVID-19 protection are obviously based on an attitude that must be supported by a strong motivation and, in some cases, must be facilitated by a reorganization of the business activities.

The check-list was implemented in a company-owned software to calculate the  safety percentages  and carry out specific analyses.

We will also soon make available an Excel data-base for the calculation of the safety percentage and analyze the results

Diese Version ist voll funktionsfähig und frei (bis zu 30 Benutzer / Beobachter und eine unbegrenzte Anzahl von Beobachtungen) zu verwenden; es hat (im Vergleich zu den verfügbaren Version für eine Gebühr von www.safeyoscar.com ALI) etwas eingeschränkter Funktionalität, sowohl bei der Erfassung der Daten und die Verwaltung und Analyse der Beobachtungen (zB, können sie bis zu einem Maximum von 10 Verhaltensweisen eingegeben werden); Allerdings ist die Möglichkeit der Extraktion der Daten vom Benutzer unbegrenzt.

Dieses Verhalten Based Safety Software eignet sich für eine einfache Handhabung und einfach, besonders in den Organisationseinheiten der kleinen und mittelgroßen und wurde weithin von ALI im Laufe der Jahre; Kurseinheiten in organizative mehr vorzuziehen sind Lösungen auf Plattformen mit höherer Leistung und mehr Möglichkeiten der Analyse.

Verwendung

Initial Setup

– Speichern Sie die Datenbank in der lokalen
–Makros aktivieren die für den Betrieb notwendig
–  Gehen Sie auf die Arbeitsblätter “Setup” und geben Sie

1) der Name der Beobachter (es ist für den Betrieb der Datenbank im Namen des Beobachters erforderlich)
2) Abteilungen und Sektoren (Optional)
3) das Verhalten zu beobachten

Beobachtungen einsetzen

– Gehen Sie nun in das Arbeitsblatt “Dateneingabe“. Finden Sie die vorgegebenen Verhaltensweisen während des Setup auf der rechten Spalte.
– Drücken Sie die Schaltfläche “Prepare Einsatz neue Beobachtung”
– Geben Sie die Daten für: Beobachter (erforderlich), Datum, Uhrzeit, Abteilung, Bereich und Kommentar. Dann geben Sie numerische Daten in Übereinstimmung     mit jedem Verhalten (fail in der Grünflächen und in Gefahr in die Box)
–   Drücken Sie nun auf die Schaltfläche “Daten speichern unter …”. Die Daten werden in dem Blatt “Beobachtungen Serie” geladen
– Wenn Sie einen Fehler machen können Sie den Button “Abbrechen Eintrag …“

On behaviorbasedsafety.org is available for downolad a free version of a database in Excel for managing observations in a process of behavior-based safety. This version is fully functional and free to use (up to 30 users / observers and unlimited number of observations); it has (compared to the version available for a fee of www.safeyoscar.com ALI) some limited functionality in data recording (eg, they can be entered up to a maximum of 10 behaviors) and the management and analysis of the observations; However, the possibility of extracting the data from the user is unlimited.

This Behavior Based Safety Software lends itself to an easy use and easy especially in the organizational units of small and medium-sized and has been widely used by ALI over the years; course units in organizative more are preferable solutions on platforms with higher performance and greater possibilities of analysis.

Use

Initial Setup

–Save the data base in the local

– Enable macros necessary for the operation

-Go to the worksheets “setup” and enter

1) the name of the observers (it is required for the operation of the data-base in the name of the observer)

2)  departments and sectors (Optional)

3) the behaviors to be observed

Inserting observation 

     –  Now go to the worksheet “Data Entry”. Find the predetermined behaviors during the setup on the right column.

– Press the button “Prepare insert new observation”

— Enter data for: observer (required), date, time, department, sector and any comments. Then enter numeric data in correspondence with each behavior (fail in the green space and at risk in the orange box)

–  Now press the button “Save data …“. The data is loaded in the sheet “Series Comments»

–  If you make a mistake you can use the button “Cancel Entry …”

You can see, through specific graphics

– percentage of safety and number of observations for each behavior

– percentage of the overall safety

In the sheet “series comments” you can extract data and analyze them with appropriate methods.

Die spezifischen Aspekte der verhaltensbasierten Sicherheitsbezogene sind in Teil A / Kapitel 1 “Behaviour Based Safety” Leitlinien behandelt und haben sich im Vergleich zu 2007 Fassung der Leitlinien innoviert unterscheiden 4 Stufen der BBS Prozesse; Zusätzlich zu den beiden Grundebenen wird die dritte Ebene insbesondere vorgesehen:

•  “Collect, record and analyse observation data”
• “Look for trends”
• “Communicate, on a regular basis, the observation results to all employees and all involved parties.”

Die vierte Stufe ist auch für die Analyse von comportiamenti in Bezug auf Grund und Folge.

• “Use a system to analyse unsafe behaviours. Example: the ABC analysis”, unito ad una misurazione del miglioramento della cultura della sicurezza dell’organizzazione.
• “There is an active BBS policy towards customers and suppliers”

In früheren Versionen der Aspekte der Messung und Verhaltensanalyse “ABC” im Zusammenhang obwohl ein Teil eines Prozesses der BBS-Standards (zB technische Anforderungen, die in dem Dokument Certiquality “DT-59″ eingestellt ist) waren nicht erkennbar; jetzt sind sie mit einem klaren Systemebenen, die einen Weg der Prozessverbesserung BBS die Anforderungen der Stufe 3 oder 4 nicht erfüllen.
Alle diese Anforderungen schon lange in den Prozess der Umsetzung der verhaltensbasierten Sicherheit von ALI mit SafetyOSCAR umgesetzt integriert; die letzte dieser Punkte, die die Beteiligung von Kunden und Lieferanten umfasst, offenbar hängt auch stark von der organisatorischen Kontext, operative und Vermarktung der Organisation beteiligt.

Su behaviorbasedsafety.org è disponibile per il downolad una versione free di un database in Excel per la gestione delle osservazioni nell’ambito di un processo di behavior-based safety. Questa versione è  perfettamente funzionante e di uso libero (massimo 30 utenti/osservatori e numero di osservazioni illimitato); essa presenta (rispetto alla versione disponibile a pagamento su www.safeyoscar.com di ALI)  alcune funzionalità limitate, sia nella registrazione dei dati (p.e. possono essere inseriti fino ad un massimo 10 comportamenti) che nella gestione e analisi delle osservazioni; tuttavia la possibilità di estrazione dei dati da parte dell’utente è illimitata.

Questo Behavior Based Safety Software si presta ad un uso facile ed agevole soprattutto nelle unità organizzative di piccole e medie ed è stato ampliamente utilizzato da ALI nel corso degli anni; ovviamente in unità organizative maggiori sono preferibili soluzioni su piattaforme più performanti e con maggiori possibilità di analisi.

Uso

Impostazione iniziale

• Salvate il data-base in locale
• Abilitate le macro necessarie al funzionamento
• Andate nel fogli di lavoro “setup” ed inserire

1. il nome degli osservatori (è obbligatorio per il funzionamento del data-base il nome dell’osservatore)
2. reparti e settori (facoltativo)
3. i comportamenti da osservare

Inserimento osservazione

• Ora passate al foglio di lavoro “inserimento dati”. Trovate i comportamenti prestabiliti in fase di setup nella colonna a destra.
• Premete il pulsante “Prepara inserimento nuova osservazione”
• Inserite i dati relativi a: osservatore (obbligatorio), data, ora, reparto, settore ed eventuali  commenti. Inserite poi i dati numerici in corrispondenza di ciascun comportamento (sicuro nello spazio verde ed a rischio nella casella arancione)
• Premete ora il pulsante “Salva i dati …”. I dati sono caricati nel foglio “Serie osservazioni”
• Se avete sbagliato potete utilizzare il pulsante “Annulla inserimento…”

La commissione tecnica di Certiquality ha emesso il primo protocollo per la certificazione di un processo di BBS: il DT-59.Questo disciplinare tecnico prende in analisi le modalità con cui l’organizzazione ha sviluppato un processo di gestione della sicurezza basata sulla metodologia di osservazione e analisi dei comportamenti, al fine di minimizzare i rischi di salute e sicurezza sul lavoro e migliorare le prestazioni di sicurezza, ed  è in grado di dimostrare la conformità di tale processo a terzi (ad esempio, clienti e committenti).

La caratteristica innovativa di questo discipplinare tecnico, una novità assoluta nel panorama della gestione della sicurezza, è costituita dal fatto che il documento oltre a descrivere gli elementi fondamentali di un processo di BBS, considera come elemento fondante del processo di certificazione la dimostrazione dell’efficacia del processo implementato dall’azienda (ovvero una riduzione degli indici infortunistici) ciò nel pieno interesse dei lavoratori, dell’azienda e degli enti assicurativi.

Tra il 2000 e il 2004 il Centro europeo per la sicurezza di processo ha sviluppato un progetto di ricerca (PRISM) per la gestione del fattore umano nell’industria chimica. Lo studio ha portato, tra l’altro, allo sviluppo di una linea guida relativa alla “behavioural safety” nell’industria di processo. 

Il documento è accompagnato da una serie di consigli finalizzati all’applicazione della BBS nell’industria di processo (p.e. è incluso un elenco di fornitori di servizi). Nella lettura ovviamente è necessario considerare che si tratta di documenti che risalgono al 2001 e che pertanto dal punto di vista metodologico vi sono state delle evoluzioni e che le informazioni contenute potrebbero non essere aggiornate.
